I have watched Game of Thrones (the season) about ten times now... Breaking Bad, the Walking Dead, Fringe, Boardwalk Empire ... what else.... well, a ton more, BUT I need some suggestions on good shows that serve as 'background noise'.... I'm tired of all my music and I need some 'non-visually-distracting' entertainment.

.......suggestions??? ... and preferably stuff that is better to 'listen to'... otherwise I end up watching the damn thing! heheheh

aaaand thank you very much! :)

You're looking for good television to LISTEN TO? Simple. Andromeda (Better story than execution), Blakes 7 (It was born in a culture of radio-shows, but sometimes they do indulge the visuals a bit - but they're far more cheezy than the actual story), Angel (better special effects, but as I've told many friends, the story is actually better than it initially appears), BSG (if you can resist watching, it's story serves me well - after having watched it at least 12 or so times) If you can get good translation of it then... Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (though there is NO WAY you can resist watching it, really I've tried... man those hot pokers hurt) and of course NOWHERE MAN (televisions triumph). Enjoy... and remember, when the time comes I will ask a favor of you...

Star Trek: Voyager, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (12 seasons, with 20+ eps a piece), Eureka, and I'm currently watching Misfits which is about British superheroes... Totally awesome!

I'm actually listening/seen Spartacus while I'm working. Also Law and Order SVU, when you end season 11 you won't remember season 1 and you can start to see it again.

Star Trek - TNG and DS9 are both on Netflix now. Being 15-20 years old they should fit the 'non-visually distracting' category well.

I HIGHLY recommend audio books. You can blow through a book a day, and it's really awesome for those books that you don't have enough time for. For instance, I didn't know if I'd like the Harry Potter books. So I went the audio book route and got through all seven in a single work week. Now no one can hassle me about not reading them anymore.

Set yourself up with some older anime series? Stuff I still enjoy that may be cheesy but yet something is series like red Dwarf (BBC) or try Terry Jones Medieval lives. Things here and there. Rerun yourself on older shows? Just some thoughts. I usually pull out the animation myself. Sometimes it inspires once in a while too! This includes even the old looney tunes!

I know it's not TV, but .... check out "Jeff Wayne's Music Version of The War of the Worlds".... if you don't know it. Great stuff. (And maybe some "Dead Can Dance"...?) Ok, ok. Don't know many US series anyway.... :(

Deadwood is heavy dialogue, Documentaries are one of my go-tos, and some of the oxygen shows my girlfriend got me addicted to (Deadly Women, Snapped, Behind Mansion Walls).

Doctor Who, Jericho, Falling Skies, Robin of Sherwood. I've just got into audio books myself, and found there really good to listen to while I work! Downloaded the whole Tolkien collection(Lord of the Rings etc) and a whole load of Sci-fi novels, most notably the whole Philip.K.Dick collection!

pull out your Firefly DVD's or the series is still on Netflix. I've found I can work with it on, also because the soundtrack is so good Tron Legacy I can work without looking up.

for me i go with simpsons. seasons 3-5. deadwood. married with children, father ted, and the ever enjoyable adam west batman tv series.
i also listen to ricky gervies xfm radio show. back to back they run for about 5 days all up. but if you havent heard em before you might be laughing too hard to work.
instramental sound tracks are my fave things to listen to. 28 days/weeks later, sunshine, jacobs ladder, momento, batman begins, darknight, silent hill game ost's, etc.
the vince dicola score for the animated transformers movie always gets me pumped.
harry shearers 'le show' podcast might work as well. but might be too sardonic to be enjoyable.

yup, for me its more of sad tale with compasion.
(the first time i heard 'dream on', it broke my heart)
and that eye-less doctor...
too good!

and of course without jaccobs ladder we would never of had the silent hill games.

ps.
drawing with the larry sanders show in the background works for me :P

I think it's the 'compassion' that makes it so damn good... when those same effects were aped by other movies, they just seem shallow and Mtv-ish... yet on Jacob's ladder it's truly a Boschian hell with a very likable character at the center... GREAT friggin movie! now I gotta find the DVD in all my crap!!! :)

yup totally. and all the effects were done on camera! no cgi cheating :P great film. i think ill have to watch it again after i finish my classic film kick recently... wild bunch, convoy, pat garrett and billy the kid, deliverance, heat, hidden, deadman, sweet smell of success, withnail & I,leon the professional, vanishing point, etc :P ahhh movies is good :D

ooh Convoys a GREAT movie to work to! its got great sound n music to say the least. ( [link] ) one of the best/funniest fight scenes... (actually its probably not a good thing to have on while working... i just spent 20 min rewatching that clip) Pekinpah all the way!

Strike Back [link] That's show is so bad-ass :D It's a show where there's a bigger plot behind the whole thing, but one mission ( military missions against terrorists ) is separated in two episodes... It's a wonderful show which doesn't get boring and it keeps entertained! Just with the list that you gave there, you seem to like drama very much BUT a good action is always entertaining :P Give it a try :)
