This is a commission I did recently and I was pretty happy with the way it came out, so I might as well post it! .... I started doing the rough pencils and laying in the armor.... then I got bored and decided to mess her up a bit... whenever I think of Samurai, I automatically think of Akira Kurosawa movies, and in his movies, some poor bastard Samurai is usually getting smacked around, SO I figure even purty Samurai Ladeees get their butt kicked every once in a while! :)

so question,
i have some marvel references of like closeups of superwomen and stuff, should i start out just by copying everything i see? Or should i just try to use them as references you think? :/

it's really important to learn from artist you like, AS much as it is important to learn REALLY good "basics" ... it's a combination of good 'fundamentals' (anatomy, structure, perspective, lighting etc etc) PLUS your individual taste and the things that you really dig that eventually make your own "Art Stew" :) .... takes a little while, so be willing to be patient with yourself, AND the most important tool for an artist, BE STUBBORN!!!! frustration usually leads to break-troughs... you just gotta be willing to stick it out! :D

Yeah, i'm working on that patience!! But really i am. I know i'll get it, i'm just still learning how, you know? And i prefer drawing in traditional art rather than digital, but i like digital and it's just a mess of arts. I don't really know if that plays into the conversation we're having, but i said it. so there.
Being stubborn is good. I'm more picky though. If something isn't how i like it, i erase it, and start over, no matter how much work i put into it. I've even erased an almost finished drawing because i didn't like it. But i guess you have to be that way huh?
I do practice the basics, but maybe not as much as i should. Should i just like, dedicate a sketchbook to poses and basic anatomy (with structure perspective lighing ect.)?
What's really bugging me is not being able to draw from my head. I always have to have a reference. I guess that comes with the lack of anatomy...
Sorry for typing so much! I just... get in the zone when typing and talking about art. None of my irl friends are artists, so i can't ask people this stuff. Thanks for your patience!!
