DCUniverse.MMO.Crime Alley by Chuckdee DCUniverse.MMO.Crime Alley by Chuckdee
FINALLY! DC Universe is out!!! It feels like we were working on that game for the past two centuries!!! :) ...anyway, here's an enviromental scene I did for Crime Alley.... my idea for Gotham was that the buildings in the old parts of town would have the 'guts' on the outside.... the slums specially... at one point, they were beautiful Baroque and Deco structures, now everything is exposed, crowded and rotting, literally and figuratively. :)

Do you sketch everything in photoshop or on paper? What's your work process usually entail? One more thing, some artists I've seen recently like to work off of silhouettes first, while others doodle till they find something they like. What is your preference?

I would have to say that working off of silhouettes is PARAMOUNT... it's so easy to get caught up in details, but in the end, they don't mean much if your silhouettes aren't interesting!

The A-ha moment is here! Thank you so much, sir. Awesome! Love it. Going to hit the sketchpad and take your lesson to heart.

This is amazing! I couldn't draw buildings if my life depended on it. :P Do you use reference pictures for this kind of stuff, or do you just draw whatever comes to your mind?

I do use reference... but I use it more to 'presoak', not as I draw, SPECIALLY concepting... it'd be to easy to just draw whats in the photo, instead of 'internalizing' it and doing your spin on it.... know what I mean?

I see. I know what you mean. drawing straight of a picture is also really boring, and almost requires no talent. :P in my opinion.

I played the beta too, but I fell in love with it. At one point I was just running around Gotham, for shits n giggles, came across Crime Alley and was like "wow this place looks like it should be crawling with scumbags." Very cool design work.

I played the beta and just couldn't get into it :/ It's a real shame because I love the DCU and its clear a lot of work went into it... maybe sometime I'll try it again and grow to love it.

This art is gorgeous though, I really love your style.
