DCO.MMO.GothamEastEnd by Chuckdee DCO.MMO.GothamEastEnd by Chuckdee
... this is near Crime Alley, where Bruce's parents were shot... so I wanted to make it a pretty messed up and crappy place to be... the trick was to keep it 'colorful', but still cold... that was always the trick with Gotham.... SONY didn't want it to be desaturated and stark, so we had to experiment with different ways to keep it colorful, but hopefully not 'hopeful'.... hard things to balance sometimes.

You can really feel the desolation here, though it is a tad odd to see street lamps lit during such a bright time of day. But the detail and colors here are stellar.

maaaan, why you gotta go and ask logical questions??? hahahah... you are correct Sir, my excuse is that this is a city that is in perpetual twilight, so street lamps would usually be on... ahem... yeah, and I'm sticking to it!!! :)

I can't get over how crime ally is a feast for the eyes! It's supposed to repel and yet I'm drawn to it! I wouldn't walk down it but I'd stop and stare....

I love how you integrated so many colors in this but it never hits you over the head in a garish, rainbow effect. I'm rather in awe of it, actually. The urban grunge in this is wonderfully captured and manages to be both simultaneously bleak and beautiful <3

what i really love about this, personally, is that even though (as it seems to look at the top of the drawing there) it's nice, middle-of-the-day light outside, the alley still looks dark and brutally terrifying.
one of those places that you walk by, but you never ever dare to set foot toward.

but i love all of your work, so who am i to say how great this one is anyway?

Weird that they didn't want anything to be desaturated. I feel like that's taking a tool out of a mechanic's toolbelt

I guess the thinking is that players don't usually travel to desaturated places in MMO's... or something like that! :)
