Braniac was a tough nut to crack... this was probably my third attempt or so... I wasn't sure if we were gonna go with the skinny (more Terminator) version of Braniac, or the green-skinned one.... I think this version made it to the demos at SDCC, but I think the final version in the game ended up being much more "Gears of War-ish" .... I was purposely trying to keep Braniac streamlined and elegant, almost with a sense of 60's tech to it, BUT that can sometimes 'read' as simple on games nowadays, so I totally understand why Braniac needed to be a little 'busier' design-wise, specially as a "Boss character".
... although, I gotta admit, sometimes I do get sick of designs with 20 different patterns and shapes on just a forearm alone in some of today's game design...... it's a fine line between 'eye candy' and 'eye death-by-sugar'.
I totally agree with that last paragraph, I was thinking the exact same thing while playing final fantasy. Sometimes the details are really........detailed LoL. when you're fighting a boss its kinda imposible the appreciate the work put into the intricate design.
yeah, totally know what you mean.... it does get to a point where too much 'embellishment' starts to become nothing but 'static noise' in a design... it's always a fine line, but it's easy too "slip", specially in today's games and high-end graphics!
DCnU definitely needs to use this design for Brainie's new 52 look! The sleek/light-lines/futuristic look definitely fits in with the current house style. Awesome design dude!
