DCO.MMO.90'sMech.tech. by Chuckdee DCO.MMO.90'sMech.tech. by Chuckdee
This is a 'generic' design for the DCO MMO... instead of designing 100 different helmets, 100 different chest pieces, 100 different gloves etc etc. for character customization, we thought it would be best to design 'complete outfits' which could then be available as separate pieces.

I always thought this approach is much much better, even if hardly anyone will ever wear a 'complete outfit' as designed, it makes it much easier to come up with different ideas for the pieces if you first think of the 'whole'... otherwise things can start getting 'generic' and tiring FAST! None of the colors or names were set, this was just all done by us (the concept artist) as a way to give the character a quick backstory to help in the design process.

For this one, I needed to design "bulky tech", so I immediately though of late 80's/early 90's anime... all the shapes were simpler and bulkier, and the weapons were often HUUUUGE.. AND her silhouette still needs to say "I'm a woman"... bulky tech and women's curves, always a fun challenge. :)

Are you talking about DC Online? I just know it as DCU Online. Sorry if that's a dumb question.

hehe, it's all good Dude, like I said, for this look, I was 'riffing' off of the 80's anime, so any of us that grew up in the era it's impossible to not be influenced by that look. :)

I like it! Though I find the lack of a small-arms weapon and some sort of shielding armor on the left arm to divert direct fire and the placement of a few vital components are in easy-to-hit-spots (i.e. the cylindrical thing on the chest look like it's important for something and would get hit easy), otherwise it's cool. :)

totally know what you mean, although to be honest, throughout the years I've learned that good design in a good mix of 'logic' and b.s. heheh... and if you think about it, in most 'real' military gear, there are some weird things constantly exposed.... like WW2 flamethrowers, the tanks were exposed and worn as a backpack, or even 'grenadier' vests, you are literally wearing explosives on your chest.... and sometimes you just throw 'function' out the door in order to make something look cool... it's always a balancing act! :)

Haha, so true. In comic stuff usually you exaggerate certain parts and play down the fact that bullets and plasma ammo don't always just bounce off of armor just because you have armor, lol.

In real life, we don't have the "power" part in a powersuit and we have to be minimalist, though it isn't as safe it's easier on the person having to carry it. Make-believe suits give you the option to add things that would be too heavy in reality, giving the excuse that it's "futuristic" so it's possible.

and as far as I know we don't have all too many flying cars today like we thought we would have 50yrs back. :XD: So the future keeps looking better. :D

I have to start by saying I do love the design. Simply fantastic.

That said, I do have to point out one flaw that is irritating me.

The mini missile in her forearm is exposed. Wouldn't it take just one bullet to hit the warhead to blow her arm off?

uuuuuh.....uhhhh, it's a special rocket that can only be armed after a number of rotations in the air, much like grenades for grenade launchers.......uhhh... yeah! :)

heheh, I can see what you mean, but if other then the 'yellowish' color-scheme, there is very little in common with them, specially with Samus signature big round shoulder pads and almost skintight segmented armour. :)

well the colors, the giant gun, slimed down mid torso and oversized shoulders were what grabbed my eye and shook them shouting "its samus! its samus you should say somthing!"

hehe, I see what you mean, but if you think about it, specially in the late 80's early 90's, big shouders and huge guns describes about 90% of power suits in anime at the time :)

agreed,im just saying, there comes a time when everyone thought a gun to large to truly handle and a pair of pads that would keep you from passing thru doors seems like a good idea to everyone
