This here was done as a promo piece for a series that regretfully got stuck in the dreaded 'Production-limbo' ... I was really exited because I was gonna' work on it with the amazing Rick Veitch, and the story was pretty damn trippy... sadly writers changed, story changed, things got shuffled around and then ...nothing.
This piece was pretty fun to do because I did it fairly quick... mostly with a small Sharpie and a brush... I wanted the brushstrokes to feel immediate and not over-thought, and in that sense, I am pretty happy with the way it came out.... the colors were almost an after-thought... just something graphic and simple... mainly to focus on the "V" in his chest and head.
This does look cool the whole scene just has that grit that I love. It's a shame the book got shelved. The character does look, design-wise, a lot like old Wildstorm's Deathblow.
I love the mini that Tony Salmons did a few years back.... I wasn't really that familiar with the original version though to be honest... DC's got an ECLECTIC roster of characters!!!
